David Gilbert
Managing Director
David Gilbert, CFP®, J.D., Managing Director, came to wealth management by way of corporate law and has never looked back. He joined Mason in 2001.
David grew up in New York, earned his Bachelor of Arts in U.S. History from Princeton University, and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia before heading west to practice corporate law in San Francisco. After four years focusing on securities transactions at two Bay Area firms, he found himself drawn toward something more personal — work where he could make a difference in the lives of individuals rather than corporations. A meeting with Bill Mason, who was building out the firm’s California presence at the time, led to David joining The Mason Companies. His legal training in reading comprehension, discipline, and attention to detail translated naturally into the complexity of executive compensation planning and wealth management at the highest levels.
Today, David’s practice centers on high-net-worth individuals and families, with a particular focus on corporate executives of public companies. He holds both his CFP® and J.D. designations and has been with Mason for more than two decades. Outside of work, David is an avid golfer who, after years of dedicated effort, has reached a single-digit handicap — a goal he’s very proud of.
