Amy Mitchell

Senior Wealth Advisor

Amy Mitchell, CFA, CFP®, CPWA®, Senior Wealth Advisor in Mason’s Private Client group, partners with families and individuals to help them navigate financial life decisions and grow and protect their wealth.  She first collaborates with clients to understand their “why” and then develops a financial and investment plan that supports their vision and acts as a roadmap to achieving their goals.  She engages clients in all aspects of their wealth plan with meaningful conversations around retirement planning, executive compensation, estate and philanthropic planning, and investment management – always with a tax-sensitive focus.  Amy often works with her clients’ children and parents to help ensure that each generation is supported.  She advocates for fully involving both spouses in the financial planning process, and specializes in helping women prepare for significant life transitions, such as career movement, widowhood, divorce, and caring for elderly parents.  She is a co-leader of Mason’s Women of Wealth initiative.

Amy brings decades of experience in finance and wealth management.  After interning in college at an investment management firm, she worked at the FDIC in capital markets and the Chairman’s Office.  She also served as a Brookings Institution Legislative Fellow, advising a U.S. Senator on the Banking Committee’s policies and actions.  After leaving the federal government, she founded a consulting business that provided financial services to nonprofits and small business owners, before pivoting into wealth management where she has spent well over a decade as a wealth advisor at planning-focused RIA firms – coming full circle to a vocation she loves.

Amy holds the Chartered Financial Analyst®, Certified Financial Planner™, and Certified Private Wealth Advisor® designations.  She is an active member of the CFA Institute, the Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council, and the Financial Planning Association.  Amy graduated from Hood College with a B.A. in Management and Finance.  She completed an executive program in Wealth Management Theory & Practice through Yale University and earned a Certificate in Financial Planning from Georgetown University.

Amy lives with her husband and chocolate lab in Northern Virginia.  With the youngest of their three children recently starting college, she enjoys weekends spent outside – shopping at farmer’s markets, hiking, cooking, and hosting family and friends.  As part of serving others, Amy is a Board Member of the Catholic Foundation of Arlington and an active volunteer in community organizations.
